Traumatic pancreatitis with peripheral fat necrosis.

چکیده
Direct damage to the pancreas occurs in about 5YO of closed abdominal injuries, many of which arise from major accidents. The fixed retro-peritoneal site of the pancreas makes it particularly vulnerable to trauma by the steering column in cars not being constructed to modem safety requirements. As these injuries become more common, and as the number of survivors of such trauma increases, the longer term complications of trauma to the pancreas will become more common. A case is described demonstrating some of these complications arising from peripheral fat necrosis.

Fat necrosis secondary to pancreatitis mimicking transverse colon cancer: a case report
Abstract Fat necrosis secondary to pancreatitis can be either mild and self limited or create severe organ damage, but may rarely lead to abdominal opancreatic pseudotumor. We report a case of fat necrosis secondary to pancreatitis which clinically simulates transverse colon cancer.
متن کاملFat necrosis presenting as obscure abdominal mass: birefringent saponified fatty acid crystalloids as a clue to diagnosis.
AIMS To describe the birefringent saponified fatty acid crystalloids seen in pancreatic fat necrosis. METHODS A histological review, including polarising microscopy, of three cases of subacute or subclinical acute pancreatitis was performed. Histochemical analysis using Nile blue sulphate for lipid, Holczinger's copper rubeanate for fatty acids, and Alizarin Red S for calcium was performed in...
متن کاملPeripancreatic fat necrosis worsens acute pancreatitis independent of pancreatic necrosis via unsaturated fatty acids increased in human pancreatic necrosis collections.
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Peripancreatic fat necrosis occurs frequently in necrotising pancreatitis. Distinguishing markers from mediators of severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) is important since targeting mediators may improve outcomes. We evaluated potential agents in human pancreatic necrotic collections (NCs), pseudocysts (PCs) and pancreatic cystic neoplasms and used pancreatic acini, peripheral bl...
متن کاملPeriodic migrainous neuralgia associated with an arteriovenous malformation.
The likeliest explanation for these fatty lesions is that they are produced by pancreatic enzymes which have entered the circulation either directly or via lymphatics. The latter is thought to be the more important route. Abdominal peritoneal lymphatic drainage and transdiaphragmatic lymphatic absorption of abdominal fluid are probably prime factors in the ingress of pancreatic enzymes to the t...
متن کاملClinical pathology of acute necrotising pancreatitis.
Seventy nine pancreatic specimens were obtained from patients treated with pancreatic resection for acute necrotising pancreatitis. The necrotising process had started in the periphery of the gland, so that eight of seventy nine cases contained peripancreatic (mainly fat) necrosis only without any parenchymal necrosis. Peripheral parenchymal necrosis was characterised by a severe inflammatory r...
